I live and work in Chicago, Illinois with a dream of someday being paid to write novels.

When I started this blog in 2015, I was teaching writing at DePaul University. At the time, I asked my students if they’d ever heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Only a handful had. I was shocked.

Their genuine surprise made me appreciate how truly disconnected we’ve become from nature as a society; it also started me thinking deeply about our world’s fierce and often unrecognized addiction to plastic.
